Cloud Services – The Complete Guide

Cloud Services :  We will clarify everything related to  servers in the cloud . Know its advantages and benefits. It refers to web hosting services that are available to customers via the Internet. Instead of being provided by a single server or a virtual server, they are provided by multiple servers connected to the cloud.

Cloud storage

To talk about cloud servers we first have to explain what the cloud and cloud storage are:

The  cloud is a virtual storage space , in which we can store a significant amount of information.

Cloud storage (Cloud Computing) allows us to have our  files stored  on accessible servers. Easy to use. We can handle the information from anywhere.

The most popular cloud storage services today are Dropbox, Box, OneDrive or Google Drive, just to give a few examples. These are free services with a limited amount of space, which can be expanded with payment.

Storage Systems

In the cloud there are a large number of storage systems, as we already mentioned in the case of Box or Dropbox. Among the options we have private clouds, like others in which we can have synchronized directories. There are many options.

The advantages of this type of hosting are many and we will mention them throughout this post. We can highlight greater accessibility and reliability, it is possible to scale, and it saves on costs. Since customers will not have to invest in servers or hardware. You pay for what you consume.

Differences Between Cloud Server And VPS

At the time of clarifying everything related to cloud services. It is important to explain the difference between a cloud server and a VPS. Both are widely used. Even the technology may seem similar. But, it has different aspects in terms of  operations  and results. We must be clear about these points at the time of contracting a service.

VPS server

It consists of a physical machine, which contains resources that are shared by multiple users. This allowed a breakthrough to dedicated servers, making it an important alternative.

Within the problems of the  VPS  Servers (Virtual Private Server) we have that they could become susceptible to  hardware failures.  Something that can cause us problems in the future. Despite this, it is also key to know that it has benefits, such as the fact of being able to add software, according to the needs of the company. In addition, it has scalable plans, so services can be added.

We can also turn off and restart the server, as well as make backup copies.

Cloud server

For its part, the Cloud is a virtual server. Abstracts the  physical server . We have a backup in an infrastructure, in which the different virtual instances are executed. This server has gained great relevance, due to all the advantages in terms of material and cost savings.

Cloud  servers  can offer greater advantages to users. They adapt to the needs, such as the increase or decrease of Ram and disk capacity, without changing the configuration, something impossible in a physical server.

Also, in the case of VPS, sometimes we may not be able to take advantage of all the performance of the server, since it depends on the intensity of use by  other users . Something that has made it lose a lot of ground against the Cloud, which offers great technology.

Advantages of a cloud server

When referring to a cloud server. It should be noted that it provides the opportunity to support a  volume of information , which a few years ago would have been impossible. Unless the company had a very large infrastructure, dedicated for that purpose. Even at some point specialized devices became popular, which were shared among several clients.

Despite all the advances in technology. You may still be wondering why replace a physical server with one in the cloud.

Cost savings

We can reduce company costs. With a server in the cloud, large  purchases of infrastructure  or devices are avoided. You could even end up below the requirements or on the contrary have to buy material at the last minute to handle the information.

Greater Availability

It is not found in one place, as it is not physically. We have a hardware independence. If a component fails, the cloud server can continue to function. A point to highlight is that all the elements are distributed equally in a cloud of servers.

Easy implementation

A cloud server can be implemented in a very short time. Even in a few minutes it can be put into full operation, unlike some hardware, in which its installation will take longer.

Guaranteed security

One of the aspects that generates the greatest concern is the handling of information. Cloud servers have also become a trend in this regard, by offering high  security standards . We can greatly protect our data. Given this, it is key to have a reliable supplier.

Ease in the control panel

Cloud server providers have a control panel similar to that found on a physical server. It can be rebooted or powered on, schedule copies, create images, or interact with the console. You don’t need to make big configurations for this

Disadvantages of the physical server

After talking about the benefits of the cloud server. We can highlight some aspects that have made it gain more and more ground, in relation to the physical server. Among its disadvantages we have:

Risk of equipment failures or problems: This can cause us to lose information for a certain time.

Requires physical space: Servers need to have a  physical space  within the company.

Trained staff: A staff is needed to maintain these spaces.

High costs: The licenses and services of the equipment have a certain cost for their operation.

Power Consumption: Servers have high power consumption. It will be affected in case of power failures.
